About Me

Hi, I'm Emily
The mama behind Self-Reliant Parenting.
When I moved away from my friends and family in 2014, I was excited for a fresh start in a warmer climate. At first, it was just my husband and me, and life felt manageable. But once we had kids, everything changed. Parenting was more challenging than I ever expected, and I found myself really missing the village I thought we’d build—but never did.
Without support from family or friends, I had to figure things out on my own: how to juggle everything without feeling constantly overwhelmed, how to take care of yourself while keeping your home and family running, and how to find connection and support when you feel alone.
Through trial & error, and a lot of late-night Googling, I’ve learned that while parenting without a village is hard, it’s not impossible. And that’s why I started this blog—to share what I’ve learned and help other moms like me feel a little less alone.
I want to provide practical advice, emotional support, and real-life strategies to help you navigate raising a family without a strong support system. I want you to know things can be a whole lot easier and less overwhelming — even if you don’t have the traditional village you imagined!
